U.S. Embassy Statement on Fifth Anniversary of June Events

Today marks the five-year anniversary of the beginning of the tragic interethnic violence in the south.  The United States notes that the people and Government of Kyrgyzstan have made efforts since that time to promote accountability, stability, and unity, and will continue to do so. Everywhere in the world and in the United States as well, it takes constructive dialogue between governments and all communities to build stable societies that respect the rights of all citizens with fairness, transparency, and equality.  By addressing differences in the open space of democracy – with respect for the rule of law and a place for people of every race and every religion – conflicts that once divided this nation may ultimately become a source of strength and lasting stability for all the people of Kyrgyzstan.
