Strong Partnership Delivers Strong Results in Fighting Drugs

Bishkek – Working together, the State Service of Execution of Punishment and the State Drug Control Service confiscated more than 140 kg of narcotics in 2015, up from 120 kg in 2014.

On January 29, a working group from the two services discussed the next steps in their partnership to fight drug trafficking, seeking to build upon this fruitful cooperation and train employees to combat illegal drug trafficking in the prison system even more effectively.

Since 2012, the United States has provided financial support to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to strengthen the work of these two agencies in order to improve criminal case investigations, enhance security procedures in correctional institutions, and increase staff capabilities.
