The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyz Republic would like to bring to the attention of U.S. citizens residing or traveling in Kyrgyz Republic the following Security Message regarding a planned demonstration:
U.S. Embassy Bishkek informs U.S. citizens that a demonstration is expected to take place in front of the U.S. Embassy from approximately 1100-1300 on February 27, 2015. A group of individuals will be demonstrating with the stated purpose of protesting against U.S. policy in Central Asia. We anticipate the size of the protest to be less than 50 people.
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling abroad enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate to contact you in an emergency.
