Security Message: Planned Demonstration

The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyz Republic would like to bring to the attention of U.S. citizens residing or traveling in Kyrgyz Republic the following Security Message regarding a planned demonstration:

Tuesday, April 7, marks the fifth anniversary of the 2010 revolution. Several events will take place to commemorate the anniversary on Tuesday. Some of these events will require road closures, including Chui Prospect between Logvinenko and Tynystanov Street. U.S. citizens should anticipate heavier than normal traffic and long delays in and around Bishkek for the duration of the day.

At this time we anticipate that the special events scheduled for Tuesday will be peaceful. However, even events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.

We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling abroad enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you do not have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

For the latest security information, U.S. citizens traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department of State’s Internet website at travel.state.gov where the Worldwide Caution, Country Specific Information,Travel Warnings, and Travel Alerts can be found. Follow us on Twitter and the Bureau of Consular Affairs page on Facebook as well.
