Subject: Law enforcement operation and unrest at the residence compound of Former President Atambayev
Location: Village of Koy Tash, Kyrgyzstan
Event: Overnight on August 7 Kyrgyz government forces entered the residence compound of former president Atambayev, located in the village of Koy Tash outside of Bishkek in an attempt to detain him. Violence, including shooting and rock throwing occurred and press is reporting multiple injuries on both sides and one fatality. The situation remains fluid and civil unrest remains a high probability in the Koy Tash area. Press is also reporting intermittent road blocks on the road leading south from Bishkek toward Koy Tash and the Alameddin Valley.
U.S. citizens are advised to avoid traveling to or through areas south of the reservoir in the village of Kok Jar and east of the village of Chon Tash . U.S. government personnel have been restricted from traveling to these areas.
