Planned Demonstrations

The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyz Republic would like to bring to the attention of U.S. citizens residing or traveling in Kyrgyz Republic the following Security Message regarding a planned demonstration:

The U.S. Embassy Bishkek informs U.S. citizens that the People Movement of Kyrgyzstan has planned a demonstration in front of the U.S. Embassy tomorrow, Thursday, May 26 at 10:00 a.m.  The number of attendees and duration are unknown at this time.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.

U. S. citizens should also:

  • Follow the instructions of local authorities, especially in an emergency.
  • Monitor media and local information sources and factor updated information into personal travel plans and activities.
  • Be prepared for additional security screening and unexpected disruptions.
  • Stay in touch with your family members and ensure they know how to reach you in the event of an emergency.
  • Register in our Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
