Event: Kyrgyz Republic COVID-19 Update March 31
Update on State of Emergency
The Ministry of Health confirmed 107 cases of COVID-19 in the country.
The government of the Kyrgyz Republic has implemented new measures to limit the spread of COVID-19. As announced on March 31, the new State of Emergency restrictions include:
- You may only go to work if your organization is included in the list of companies allowed to work during the state of emergency.
- You can make trips for groceries and medications only within 1.5 km of your home.
- Dog walking only permitted within 100 meters of your residence.
- No gatherings larger than 3 people (not including families) have been banned.
- No minors are allowed outside without adult supervision.
- Work of companies not providing essential support services is suspended
A curfew remains in place from 8pm to 7am. Outside of curfew hours, residents may leave their homes only to obtain groceries or medical care or to visit a pharmacy or bank. You are required to carry a form of identification, and a written routing form. The routing form must include your full name, phone number, reason for being outside, home address and time of departure, and destination address and time of return. Government checkpoints have been set up on roads leading in and out of the areas under the State of Emergency.
Departure Flights
The U.S. Embassy has received information from both the Russian Embassy in Bishkek and Aeroflot Airlines that there are no longer any international flights operating out of Bishkek that are available for American citizens. The Moscow-JFK flight route was suspended as of 30 March, and there are no more onward flight connections to the US from Russia.
U.S. citizens who want to return to the United States and have been unable to do so are encouraged to send an email to consularbishkek@state.gov and provide your name, passport number, and contact email and phone. We will use this information for direct communication with you if further flight information becomes available.
Kyrgyz Visa Update
On March 28, the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic announced that foreigners may remain in the Kyrgyz Republic until May 1, 2020 without requiring an exit visa. U.S. citizens whose visas are expired will not be required to pay a fine or obtain an exit visa upon departure before May 1, 2020. This measure was implemented due to the difficulty for foreign citizens to depart the Kyrgyz Republic on time as a result of the restrictive travel measures as well as the temporary suspension of international flights due to the spread of COVID-19. For more information, please review the official announcement of this measure at the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic’s website, https://www.gov.kg/ru.
