The murder of George Floyd by a member of the Minneapolis Police Department was a national tragedy. Prosecutors in America have charged one police officer with murder and three officers with aiding murder. I am confident in the strength of the judicial system to hold accountable those responsible.
But more importantly, George Floyd’s murder reveals a need within our country to take a hard look at ourselves and recognize that we need to do more as a nation to address issues of racism and discrimination in all of their forms.
We in the American Embassy in Bishkek commit to upholding the highest standards of non-discrimination for our employees and for those whom we serve.
These are truly historic times in the United States. We hope that we will emerge from this period as a more tolerant and respectful society.
